Following the campus guidelines for Coronavirus all UC Davis classes, lectures, seminars, labs and discussion sections will move to virtual instruction and remain virtual through the end of Summer Session 2021, including final exams. Given this, the department’s administrative functions have moved to remote work conditions. To contact staff members of the department via e-mail or phone, please go to our administrative staff contact page.  We anticipate a return to campus for Fall 2021.

Katherine Eriksson Joins UCD Econ

Economic Historian Katherine Eriksson joins UC Davis Economics Department.

Katherine Eriksson, an economic historian, has joined the Economics Department starting this Fall quarter. Eriksson, who received her Ph.D. from UCLA in 2013, works at the frontier of economic history, labor, and development economics. One strand of her research has focused on the immigrants during what is known as the "age of mass migration" in the US between 1850 and 1930. Looking at this time period, a time with no restrictions on who was allowed to come, she is able to answer "who came?" and "how did migrants assimilate in the US?". By studying the performance of past immigrants, we can learn something about immigration today. A second strand of research concerns the origins of black-white disparities in education and health, looking at the first half of the twentieth century U.S.

"We are thrilled to add such a bright and promising young scholar as Katherine to our Department" said Chair Giovanni Peri.

Eriksson will be teaching ECN 111B in Winter, and 140 and 210C in Spring.
