Giovanni Peri's and UCD Alum Vasil Yasenov show no wage impact from refugee wave

UCD Professor Giovanni Peri and UCD Alum Vasil Yasenov (Ph.D. 2017), now a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University, published new work in the Journal of Human Resources showing little impact from an historic wave of refugees from Cuba on local labor markets in Florida.

Their article confirms an early finding by David Card, recently questioned, about the effects of the Mariel Boatlift on labor markets in Miami. Peri and Yasenov show that when properly accounting for pre-existing trends and for measurement error, no adverse effects on wages of native workers is detected.
