Deadlines - FAQs

When are applications and letters of recommendations due? Are GRE, TOEFL and transcript submission deadlines flexible? The answers are here.

  • When is the application deadline?
  • You must apply by December 15, 2022, for Fall 2023 admission.
  • Must all recommendation letters be submitted by Dec. 15?
  • Submitting letters of recommendation by December 15 is preferable. But if you submit your admission application by December 15, recommenders can still submit letters after that date (and doing so will not disqualify you). Recommenders cannot submit letters until after the application has been submitted; we advise waiting until after the application fee has been paid.
  • If I have taken the GRE exam more than once, how do you consider the scores?
  • UC Davis will review all of the scores. We take your best scores for each section of the exam into consideration.
  • If GRE or TOEFL scores or recommendation letters are not able to be submitted by the deadline, can I still be considered for admission?
  • Yes, you can still be considered for admission. Just do your best to have those items submitted as soon as possible. However, the admission application, statement of purpose, personal history statement and résumé (c.v.) all must be submitted online by the Dec. 15 deadline. Your application will not be reviewed, however, until after all items have been received.
  • If an applicant is accepted to enter the UC Davis Graduate Program in the fall but then is unable to travel to Davis when classes begin, can the admission be deferred to the next year?
  • Admission is not deferred to the next year, but you can apply for admission again for the next year in competition with other applicants.
  • If I already submitted my transcripts to meet the December 15 deadline, but later receive fall quarter or semester grades, can I submit an updated transcript?
  • No. Unfortunately, because of the large number of applications and transcripts that are received, we are unable to amend or replace the submission. Please understand that the documents that you submit will be the ones used in the review and evaluation of your application.
