What I do as a Data Engineer/ Data Analyst at Chevron Corporation?
I currently am working for 2 teams, TBM and SJVBU where I am in charge of regularly speaking to stakeholders about what type of powerbi visualizations they would like to see. What I then do after collecting that information is going into the data lake and collecting what’s needed, feeding it into either R or PowerBi and then go into the process of cleaning the data, manipulating the data and making transformations. I then make visualizations out of that data and present it to the stakeholders where I am able to gather feedback and cater to their specific needs on what the data should look like.
The economics degree helps me with my current job because it helps me think like a stakeholder and be able to understand up to what level the data should be. An example of this is if my stakeholder is a manager of a team then it’s in their interest to only look at the data that is relevant to their team and wouldn’t really look at higher level data. If my stakeholder is an executive than they would only prefer to look at a higher level and not so much up close.
What I most valued from UC Davis?
What I valued the most from UC Davis was the fact that they were so flexible and might it quite easy to double major. I was easily able to talk to advisors from both majors and was able to figure out how to overlap and how to graduate on time. In fact, thanks to the advisors and to the L&S, I was able to graduate in 2.5 years. I really loved my time here and have truly enjoyed a lot! I especially loved the fact that UC Davis was a research school and thus I was able to secure 2 research opportunities which gave me viable job experience and I used that to show to interviewers that I took my future very seriously and was very ambitious.
