Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) is the international honor society devoted to the field of Economics.

The objectives of the Omicron Delta Epsilon (ODE) are:

  1. The recognition of scholastic attainment and the honoring of outstanding achievements in economics;
  2. The establishment of closer ties between students and faculty in economics within colleges and universities, and among colleges and universities;
  3. The publication of its official journal, The American Economist; and
  4. The sponsoring of panels at professional meetings, as well as the Irving Fisher and Frank W. Taussig competitions.

HISTORY

Omicron Delta Epsilon, one of the world's largest academic honor societies, was created through the merger of two honor societies, Omicron Delta Gamma and Omicron Chi Epsilon. Omicron Delta Gamma (the Order of Artus) was founded in 1915 by John R. Commons, University of Wisconsin, and Frank Taussig, Harvard University. Omicron Chi Epsilon was founded in 1955 by Alan A. Brown while he was a student at the City College of New York. Omicron Delta Epsilon has over 560 chapters located in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Africa, Egypt and France.

ADMISSION

The minimum requirements for admission for undergraduates are: 

  • You must be a declared major in Economics or International Relations,
  •  Must be in Junior or Senior standing (minimum 90 units completed)
  • Must have completed 12 Upper Division units of economics course work with an overall 3.0 GPA in this course work
  • Must have an overall UC GPA of 3.0.

APPLICATION

Applications open on the 1st day of Instruction in Fall and Spring Quarter. Applications will be reviewed after the 25th day of instruction. After your record has been reviewed for approval, you will receive an invitation to register online for the International Honor Society in Economics and pay a life-membership fee of $50. This fee can only be paid online as our EHE office will not accept any forms of payment. 

In return, you will receive a membership card, certificate, and free on-line access to The American Economist. After these memberships are processed, ODE will send to the Economics Department your certificate and any other items you ordered (key or pin).  You can pick up your membership certificate and card from the EHE advising office. If you are graduating in the quarter you apply,  please make sure the address on the application is an address we can send the ODE certificate, if you are unable to pick up your certificate. The EHE advising office will mail the certificate to the address listed on your registration form.
