"Identification and estimation in a two-period collective household model"

Abstract:

Very preliminary. We study a full information collective household model in which the Pareto weights are treated as fixed effects. In the resulting model, the household resource shares can be correlated with budgets and (unobserved) prices, and vary over time. We establish conditions under which data on household demand from two periods is sufficient to identify features of the demand functions (for private assignable goods) and the distribution of resource shares conditional on household budgets and other observables. We discuss nonparametric and semiparametric estimation of the identified quantities.
