Kevin Bacon (B.A., Political Science, ’72) wants to ensure that future generations have access to the same high quality UC Davis education that helped him succeed as a management consultant.
“Lots of people sacrificed to create the UC education I received,” Bacon said in endowing the fellowship in 2007. “Giving something back now is helping make a great education available to another generation.”
Kevin Bacon spent more than 25 years providing consulting services to public sector organizations. He retired from IBM Business Consulting Services where he was a vice president in its public sector consulting practice. Before joining IBM, he was a senior partner and consultant with PricewaterhouseCoopers in their government consulting practice. He has led large projects designed to improve the quality, cost and timeliness of public services.
In addition to his UC Davis degree, Bacon holds an M.S. in economics from the London School of Economics.
Bacon remains deeply connected to UC Davis. He is the past chair, vice chair and stewardship committee chair of the UC Davis Foundation board of trustees and was integral to the success of the university’s $1 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign, The Campaign for UC Davis, in his role as a member of the Campaign Cabinet. In addition, Bacon served as the first chair of the College of Letters and Science Deans’ Advisory Council and is a member of the UC Davis Chancellor’s Club and the Herbert A. Young Society.
In 2012, he served as the Robert A. Fox Executive-in-Residence at the Graduate School of Management, teaching a course on leadership. He is also teaches graduate courses at the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, Austin.
A life member of the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, he received the recipient of the 2015 Jerry W. Fielder Memorial Award—CAAA’s highest honor—for his service to CAAA, the UC Davis Foundation and the university overall.
A gift from the Bacons also supports the Bacon Public Lectureship and White Paper Competition, established in 2014 at the UC Center Sacramento.
