According to RePEc, UC Davis ranks 20th among all U.S. economics departments, and it ranks 6th among U.S. economics departments at public universities. These rankings are based on the overall publication record of each department's faculty. Under an alternative ranking based on papers published by each department's top 10 authors within the past 10 years, UC Davis ranks 9th among all U.S. economics departments—reflecting both the strength of our most prolific researchers and our especially strong performance over the last decade.

RePEc (Research Papers in Economics) is an independent, nonprofit collaborative resource established and maintained through the participation of hundreds of volunteers in 85 countries to enhance dissemination of research in economics and related sciences. The project encompasses a bibliographic database of working papers, journal articles, books, book chapters and software components, as well as various rankings of Economics institutions and activities.

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) is the nation's leading nonprofit economic research organization. Its members have encompassed Nobel Prize winners in Economics, and 13 past chairs of the President's Council of Economic Advisers have been researchers at the NBER. At UC Davis Economics, 15 members of the department are NBER Research Associates and 2 others are NBER Faculty Research Fellows.
